Terms of Use

Last updated: October 11, 2026

These Terms of Use apply to legacylistag.com, which is run by Legacy List ("Legacy List," "we," "us"). By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

1. What Legacy List is

Legacy List is a free directory of attorneys, financial advisors, CPAs and tax advisors, succession consultants, and other professionals who have experience working with farms, ranches, and agricultural businesses. The site is for general information only.

Legacy List is not a law firm, accounting firm, or financial advisor, and nothing on the site is legal, tax, financial, or other professional advice. Using the site, contacting us, or contacting a listed professional through the site does not create an attorney-client or any other professional relationship with Legacy List.

2. Listings and what "Verified" means

A Verified badge means we reviewed the professional's agricultural work and checked their credentials against the sources described on the site as of the date shown. It is not an endorsement, recommendation, or guarantee of any professional's work or results. We check credentials when a professional is listed and from time to time after that, but we don't monitor them continuously. Licenses, practices, and other details can change after we check them, and we can't promise that every listing is complete or current.

Nobody pays to be listed, and we don't receive referral fees or any other payment if you hire someone you find here. If we ever offer paid options for professionals, we will update these terms first and clearly label any listing that has paid for extra visibility. Payment will never buy a Verified badge.

You are responsible for choosing a professional. We encourage you to talk with anyone you are considering, check their credentials yourself, and ask about their fees before you hire them.

3. Checking credentials yourself

You can look up a professional's license and history directly with the official sources, including:

  • Attorneys: the state bar or state court attorney lookup in the state where the attorney practices.
  • Financial advisors and brokers: FINRA BrokerCheck (brokercheck.finra.org), the SEC's Investment Adviser Public Disclosure site (adviserinfo.sec.gov), and, for CFP professionals, CFP Board (cfp.net).
  • CPAs: the state board of accountancy, or CPAverify (cpaverify.org) for participating states.
  • Insurance professionals: the insurance department in the professional's state.
  • Appraisers who value land and buildings: the appraiser licensing board in the state that issued the license, or the Appraisal Subcommittee's National Registry (asc.gov/appraiser). States don't license appraisers who value only equipment or livestock, so for those, ask about their training and professional designations.

4. Your dealings with professionals

Listed professionals are independent. They are not employees, agents, or partners of Legacy List, and we don't supervise or control their work. Any agreement, payment, or other dealing between you and a professional you find on the site is solely between you and that professional. Legacy List is not a party to it and is not responsible for the services they provide.

5. For listed professionals

If you are listed on Legacy List, or ask to be, you agree to:

  • Give us accurate information and tell us promptly when something changes, such as your firm, contact details, services, or license status.
  • Keep the licenses and registrations your work requires in good standing.
  • Follow the rules that apply to your profession, including any advertising, marketing, or communications rules (for example, state bar advertising rules, FINRA and SEC rules for financial professionals, and any approval your own firm requires before you appear in an outside directory). You are responsible for your own compliance.

You give us permission to publish the information you provide or approve for your listing, such as your name, firm, photo, logo, biography, credentials, service area, and contact details, and to edit it for length, clarity, and consistency. You can ask us to update or remove your listing at any time by emailing info@legacylistag.com. We decide who is listed, and we may decline, edit, or remove any listing at any time.

6. Get Matched

The Get Matched questions on the site suggest the types of professionals families in similar situations often work with, based only on the answers you choose. These suggestions are general information, not advice about your specific situation.

7. Using the site

You agree not to:

  • Copy, scrape, or collect directory listings or other content in bulk, by automated means or otherwise, without our written permission.
  • Submit false or misleading information, or pretend to be someone else.
  • Send spam or use the site's forms for any purpose other than contacting Legacy List.
  • Interfere with the site's operation or security, or try to get around its spam protection.
  • Use the site in any way that breaks the law.

8. Information you send us

Please make sure the information you send us is accurate. You give us permission to use what you submit to respond to you and, for professionals, to review and prepare your listing. Submitting the For Professionals form does not guarantee a listing. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information.

9. Our content

The site's design, text, graphics, and directory compilation belong to Legacy List or the people who license them to us. Professionals' and firms' names, logos, and trademarks belong to them. You may view and share pages from the site for personal, non-commercial use, but you may not otherwise copy or reuse the site's content without our written permission.

10. Other websites

The site links to websites run by others, including listed professionals' own sites. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy, or practices.

11. Disclaimers

THE SITE AND EVERYTHING ON IT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DON'T PROMISE THAT THE SITE WILL ALWAYS BE AVAILABLE OR FREE OF ERRORS, AND WE MAKE NO PROMISES ABOUT THE QUALITY OR RESULTS OF ANY LISTED PROFESSIONAL'S SERVICES.

12. Limits on our liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, LEGACY LIST WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, THAT COME FROM YOUR USE OF THE SITE OR FROM YOUR DEALINGS WITH ANY PROFESSIONAL YOU FIND THROUGH IT. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SITE WILL NOT BE MORE THAN $100.

13. Your responsibility

If you misuse the site or break these terms and that leads to a claim against Legacy List, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of that claim, including reasonable attorney fees.

14. Governing law and where disputes are handled

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Dakota, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute relating to the site or these terms will be handled only in the state courts located in Minnehaha County, South Dakota, or in the United States District Court for the District of South Dakota, Southern Division, in Sioux Falls. You and Legacy List both agree to those courts' jurisdiction.

15. Changes and ending access

We may update these terms from time to time by posting a new version on this page and changing the "Last updated" date above. If you keep using the site after that, you accept the updated terms. We may change, suspend, or stop any part of the site, or limit anyone's access to it, at any time.

16. General

The site is meant for use in the United States. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our not enforcing a part of these terms is not a waiver of it. We may transfer these terms if Legacy List is sold, merged, or reorganized; you may not transfer them without our written permission. Sections 9 and 11 through 14 continue to apply even after you stop using the site. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the full agreement between you and Legacy List about the site.
